About John J. Jack

John J. Jack Mehler has spent decades at the intersection of law, finance and local practice. He built a steady career shaped by formal study and long-term roles in both private practice and professional organizations. He is a familiar presence at the firm where he became a partner in the mid-1980s.

Mehler’s formal training began with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Gannon University. He then earned his Juris Doctor at the University of Dayton School of Law. That mix of business and legal education underpins much of the work he has handled through the years.

After completing his studies he entered private practice and rose to partnership. In 1986 he became a partner at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton. The position placed him at the center of transactions and advisory matters that require both legal analysis and an understanding of complex financial structures. Colleagues and clients have relied on his steady approach to resolving transactional and regulatory questions.

Outside the firm he has been active in professional groups that reflect his areas of interest. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Legal Committee for the Institute for Professions in Taxation. He is a long-standing member of the Pennsylvania State Bar, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Erie County Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He also belongs to the National Association of Bond Lawyers and the Appraisal Institute. Since 1987 he has served as solicitor to the Builders Association of Northwest Pennsylvania, a role that connects him regularly to the construction and development community.

Mehler is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New York, and he holds admission in the U.S. Federal District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Those admissions have supported his participation in matters that cross state lines and touch on federal questions, particularly in areas tied to taxation, financing and property issues.

Today he remains a partner at MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton. His practice draws on legal training in business and tax, long experience in municipal and bond matters, and ongoing work advising builders and property interests. He currently concentrates on tax matters, real estate and municipal finance, and counsel to builders and developers.
