About John H. Russell
John H. Russell Jr. graduated from Stetson University in 1995 with a B.A. in political science. He returned to law school more than a decade later and earned his J.D. from Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law in 2010. The gap between degrees was spent in legal support roles that laid a practical foundation for his later work as an attorney.
Russell began his legal career as a judicial intern for the Seventh Judicial Circuit in 1995, immediately after completing his undergraduate studies. He moved into firm work the next year and spent the late 1990s and early 2000s in paralegal posts at several Florida firms, including Glasser & Handel, Smith, Hood, Perkins et al., and Rotstein & Shiffman, LLP. Those years gave him regular exposure to courtroom filings and case preparation.
He returned to Rotstein & Shiffman, LLP as a law clerk in 2007 while finishing law school. After receiving his J.D. in 2010 he took on an associate lawyer role at the same firm. Two years later he joined Politis & Matovina, P.A. as an associate. The progression from paralegal to law clerk to associate maps onto steady growth in courtroom and litigation responsibilities.
Russell practices in Florida and holds memberships that reflect his active involvement in the local legal community. He serves as vice president of the Volusia Civil Trial Lawyers Association and is president-elect of the Flagler County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Volusia County Bar Association and holds membership in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Those roles indicate regular engagement with civil trial practice and federal-court procedures.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who knows the paperwork and the rhythms of trial work because he has done both the behind-the-scenes and front-line tasks. His background as a paralegal and law clerk informs how he prepares cases and coordinates with support staff. In firm settings he has worked on matters that reach the trial calendar and require courtroom readiness.
He is based at Politis & Matovina, P.A., where he has handled litigation matters since joining the firm. He continues to practice in Florida courts, including matters that appear in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. His current practice centers on civil litigation and trial work in Florida courts.
