John G. Merna is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1992. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Merna earned his Juris Doctor degree from George Mason University School of Law in 1992. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1981. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Arizona, obtained in 1986.

Before establishing The Merna Law Group in 2003, he was the founder and partner in a prominent Los Angeles bankruptcy law firm. His extensive experience includes representing clients in the Central District of California, including the Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside Divisions.

Mr. Merna is an active member of the Virginia State Bar and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He served as the President of the Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar Association from 2010 to 2011. He is also a member of the Virginia Beach Bar Association.
