About John F.
John F. Aplin built a career that moves between the street and the courtroom. He began in law enforcement as a police officer and accident reconstructionist for the Monroe Police Department in 1989. Those early years shaped the practical knowledge he later brought to criminal matters and traffic collision cases.
He earned three degrees from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1999, studying psychology, sociology and business administration. He then received both a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Juris Doctor in 2002. The combination of social science and legal study set a foundation for work that blends investigation and advocacy.
Aplin entered private practice in 2003, opening the Law Office of John F. Aplin. He also served in several public roles. In 2004 he worked as an Assistant District Lawyer in the 37th Judicial District Lawyer’s Office in Caldwell Parish. He later took contract defense work for the 4th Judicial District Indigent Defender Board in Ouachita Parish in 2006. By 2008 he was a felony prosecutor with the 4th Judicial District Lawyer’s Office in Ouachita Parish. That mix of defense and prosecutorial experience gives him perspective on both sides of criminal litigation.
His training is extensive in collision investigation and law enforcement techniques. Certifications include Traffic Accident Reconstruction from the Northwestern University Traffic Institute and courses in advanced accident investigations at Central Missouri State University’s National Police Institute and the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Institute of Law Enforcement. He has also completed specialized training in grade crossing collision investigation and the psychology of interviewing through the Union Pacific Railroad Police Department Training System. State-level certifications include DWI detection and field sobriety testing and chemical testing for intoxication from Louisiana peace officer and state police programs.
Aplin is admitted to practice in Louisiana and before federal courts in the Western District of Louisiana and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. His practice reflects both his investigative background and courtroom experience. He represents clients in criminal matters, traffic collision litigation and related civil claims, and he maintains his office at the Law Office of John F. Aplin.
He currently handles cases that draw on his law enforcement training and courtroom experience, including collision reconstruction, DWI and criminal defense matters.
