About John Eugene

John Eugene Kelly studied business at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln before turning to law. He earned a B.A. in Business in 1999 and then pursued legal studies at Creighton University School of Law, completing his J.D. in 2003. He also spent time in an economics study abroad program at Oxford University in 2003. His law school transcript lists courses in constitutional law, contracts, tax, trusts and estates, torts, litigation and employment law.

Kelly began his legal career in public service. In 2002 he worked as a legal clerk in the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office. The following year he entered private practice and clerkships as he completed his law degree, then in 2004 he served as a law clerk in the Douglas County Attorney’s Office. Those early roles placed him inside government offices where he handled research and assisted on municipal and county matters.

In 2006 he moved to Arizona and joined the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office as a deputy county lawyer. That role expanded his courtroom exposure and his familiarity with county-level prosecution and civil litigation. He maintained his ties to government practice while broadening his responsibilities. By 2011 he had shifted back toward private practice as an associate at Suzuki Law Offices. Two years later he opened his own practice under the Kelly Law Team name.

Kelly is admitted to practice in Arizona and New York, and he is also admitted before the Federal Circuit. He holds an active membership in the State Bar of Arizona since 2006 and in the State Bar of New York since 2013. Those admissions reflect a career that moves between state and federal matters and that spans both public and private sectors.

Casework across his career has included litigation and matters arising from government representation. He has experience in trial preparation, legal research, and client counseling. His training at Creighton covered a range of core subjects, and his early government roles continued to shape the kinds of matters he handles today.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and pragmatic in approaching legal problems. He has handled filings and hearings at the county level and argued matters in state and federal venues. He also brings a business undergraduate background and a brief period studying economics at Oxford, which inform his view on transactional and regulatory issues.

He now practices under the Kelly Law Team. He focuses his practice on civil litigation and government law matters at his firm.
