About John David
John David Mayoras took a straightforward path into law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Michigan in 2000 and completed his J.D. at the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2003. Those academic years preceded a steady rise in courtroom work and public defense.
His first notable post after law school placed him inside the Fredericksburg Office of the Public Defender. Beginning in 2004 he served as a senior assistant there. The role gave him regular trial exposure and day-to-day experience handling criminal cases for clients who relied on public representation. It was a formative period that shaped his practice style and approach to courtroom work.
In 2009 he moved into private practice as a partner at Spencer, Mayoras, Koch, Cornick, & Meyer, PLC. His partnership years were spent balancing caseloads, overseeing junior attorneys and maintaining a presence in local courts. Colleagues and opposing counsel encountered him primarily on criminal matters; his record from that time reflects repeated work on contested hearings and jury trials.
By 2016 he had established his own firm, John D. Mayoras, Lawyer at Law, PLC. Alongside private practice he retained an active role in court-appointed representation. He holds certifications from the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission for both felony and misdemeanor court-appointed counsel. Those certifications authorize him to accept appointed work at multiple levels of criminal charge. He has maintained membership in the Fredericksburg Bar Association since 2009 and retains other professional affiliations.
Mayoras practices in Virginia and continues to take on criminal matters. He draws on experience from the public defender’s office and years as a partner to manage trials, pretrial motions and client counseling. His work includes representing individuals charged with misdemeanors and felonies, and serving as court-appointed counsel when assigned. He currently practices criminal defense in Virginia.
