About John C.
John C. Courtney built his legal foundation at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2005, majoring in departmental honors economics and completing minors in departmental honors philosophy and business law. He went on to receive his J.D. in 2008 from Boyd Law.
Courtney began his practice soon after law school. In 2008 he joined John Peter Lee, Ltd. as litigation counsel, a role that placed him in day-to-day courtroom work and case preparation. Seven years later he moved into firm leadership. In 2015 he became a partner at LBC Law Group, where he took on broader responsibility for managing cases and mentoring junior lawyers.
He has been a member of the Nevada State Bar since 2008 and is admitted to practice before the Ninth Circuit as well as in Nevada state courts. Those admissions allow him to handle matters at both the trial and appellate levels. His courtroom work has kept him engaged in procedural and evidentiary issues that arise in contested cases.
Outside of the courtroom, Courtney has taken on governance responsibilities in the legal community. Since 2011 he has served as chairperson of the board of directors for Nevada Legal Services. In that capacity he has overseen board meetings and helped guide organizational priorities for a nonprofit that provides civil legal assistance.
Colleagues describe him as steady in litigation settings and methodical in case preparation. He works on pleadings, motion practice, and the strategic decisions that lead into trial or settlement talks. He also handles matters that require appellate briefing and argument in federal court.
Courtney balances client work with his board service and bar participation. He maintains an active membership in the Nevada State Bar and continues to appear regularly in state and federal dockets. His practice has evolved from a litigation counsel role to one that includes case strategy, client counseling, and firm management.
He is a partner at LBC Law Group, where he handles civil litigation matters in Nevada and before the Ninth Circuit.
