About John

John Buhrman built his legal foundation at Villanova University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1996, and at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, where he received his J.D. in 2000. He moved from an undergraduate study of the past into a professional focus on how law shapes people’s futures. The shift from history to law set the stage for a career that crosses finance, probate and tax matters.

He began his professional life in trust services. In 2000 he worked as a trust officer for UBS Trust Company, N.A. That role placed him inside the administration of estates and fiduciary relationships. He learned the operational side of trusts, how institutional trustees manage assets, and how documentation and procedure affect beneficiaries. The experience gave him a practical baseline before he took on client advisory and litigation roles.

Buhrman is licensed to practice in Tennessee and Georgia and is admitted to the United States Tax Court. Those credentials inform a practice that bridges state probate law and federal tax issues. He is active in local and professional circles. He holds memberships in the Chattanooga Bar Association and the Chattanooga Estate Planning Council, and belongs to both the Tennessee Bar Association and the Georgia Bar Association. Nationally, he is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Society of Financial Service Professionals.

Colleagues describe him as methodical and straightforward. He tends to favor careful document drafting and clear client explanation over quick fixes. His work touches on estate planning, trust administration, elder law concerns and tax disputes. He handles planning documents, advises fiduciaries and represents clients in proceedings where tax consequences matter. He also works with financial professionals, drawing on his earlier trust services experience to coordinate plans that involve institutional trustees and financial firms.

His courtroom and advisory work converge when tax questions enter probate or trust matters. He can take a file from drafting to dispute resolution, addressing tax filings or petitions as needed. Outside of formal practice, he engages with continuing education through bar groups and professional associations. He currently represents individuals and families in estate planning, trust and elder law matters, and in tax-related proceedings.
