About John A.
John A. Gambill works at the intersection of state and federal practice in Ohio. He appears in courtrooms in both the Northern and Southern districts of the state and in Ohio’s trial courts. His work involves navigating procedural and substantive issues that arise when matters move between state and federal forums.
Gambill is admitted to practice in Ohio and before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Those admissions allow him to represent clients in a range of matters that require litigation or court appearances across those jurisdictions. He handles filings, pretrial proceedings and oral argument as the demands of a case require.
Over the course of his practice he has managed the practical demands of courtroom representation and the drafting and negotiation that often precede it. He routinely prepares pleadings, motions and briefs for district courts and for matters filed in Ohio state court. He also coordinates evidence and witness preparation ahead of hearings and trials. Colleagues describe him as thorough in his courtroom preparation and exacting in his written work, qualities that matter when cases turn on narrow procedural questions or factual nuance.
Gambill practices at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. There he works on matters that require familiarity with federal procedure as well as state law. He represents individuals and organizations in proceedings that may begin in state court and end up in a federal district, or that start in federal court and require state-law analysis. He takes cases through motion practice and the trial stage when necessary, and he continues to represent clients in post-trial proceedings as courts require. He currently practices at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, where he handles matters in Ohio state and federal courts.
