About John A
John A Culver began a legal path shaped by study in the United States and abroad. He earned his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame in 1985 and completed the Concannon Programme of International Law there in 1986. Before law school he read political philosophy and political science at Michigan State University, where he received a B.A. in 1981, and spent an academic year at St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge in 1984.
Early in his career he worked in London as a legislative aide to the Hon. Patrick Thompson, M.P., in the House of Commons from 1986 to 1987. He returned to the United States and joined Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney as an associate in 1988. He has maintained ties to the Chicago legal community since that period, holding membership in the Chicago Bar Association from 1988 to the present and licensed to practice in Illinois and before the Seventh Circuit.
Culver’s private practice spanned several Chicago firms over two decades. He was an associate and then partner at French Kezelis & Kominiarek from 1990 through 2002. He moved to McKenna Storer as a partner from 2002 to 2006 and then served as a partner at Myers & Miller LLC from 2006 until 2010. Those years included day-to-day client work, management responsibilities and courtroom appearances.
Alongside firm work, Culver took on longstanding in-house counsel roles. He has served as National Counsel for The Heim Group since 1990 and has been General Counsel for Ultimate Chicago since 1998. Those roles have kept him involved in corporate legal questions, compliance issues and coordinated responses to client needs across multiple jurisdictions.
Culver’s background combines international exposure, classroom law study and hands-on practice. The mix of legislative experience in London, graduate study at Notre Dame’s international law program and decades of practice in Chicago informs the way he approaches problems. He has handled matters that required counsel both inside organizations and in adversarial settings.
He continues to practice in Chicago while serving the in-house legal needs of his long-term clients. His current work centers on providing corporate and general counsel services to organizations in the region.
