About Joey
Joey Jackson earned his law degree from Hofstra University in 1995 after completing a Master of Public Administration at SUNY Albany in 1992 and a bachelor’s degree at SUNY Brockport in 1988. His academic path combined public administration and law, a pairing that shaped his early approach to criminal justice and courtroom work.
Jackson began his legal career in New York City. In 1995 he served as an assistant district lawyer at the New York City District Attorney’s Office, where he handled prosecutions at the trial level. A year later he moved into legal education, teaching at Monroe College in 1996. By 1998 he was serving as senior trial counsel at Koehler & Isaacs, LLP, taking on complex litigation and courtroom responsibilities that deepened his trial practice.
Over the next decade Jackson built a practice rooted in criminal defense. He joined professional associations relevant to trial lawyers and criminal defense practitioners. He became a member of the New York State Bar Association in 1996 and later joined the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2005. Those memberships reflect steady engagement with evolving criminal procedure and trial strategy.
In 2014 Jackson added a public-facing role as a legal analyst for CNN and HLN. He appeared on television to explain legal developments and high-profile cases to a broader audience. That media work ran alongside his continuing trial practice and placed him in regular contact with developments in national criminal law and public policy.
Jackson took on a partnership role at Watford Jackson, PLLC in 2018. Two years later he opened his own firm, Joey Jackson Law PLLC, where he continues to practice. He is admitted to practice in New York and to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and he is also admitted to the Supreme Court. His professional honors include membership in Top 100 Criminal Defense Lawyers and Top 100 National Black Lawyers beginning in 2017, and membership in the National Trial Lawyers Association since 2014.
Jackson’s record emphasizes courtroom work and criminal defense advocacy. He has worked as a prosecutor, a defense lawyer, a law teacher and a media analyst. That mix gives him a breadth of perspective on criminal litigation and trial procedure. Jackson represents clients in criminal defense matters through his practice at Joey Jackson Law, PLLC.
