About Joel R.
Joel R. Spivack earned a B.A. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1986 and a J.D. from Hofstra University in 1989. Those years set the stage for a practice centered on bankruptcy and commercial matters. He moved into the field quickly after law school and built a practice grounded in courtroom work and transactional detail.
His early career was spent in law firms where bankruptcy and financial restructuring were central. In 1991 he worked as an associate at Ciardi, Fishbone and DiDonato. The next year brought a role in the Bankruptcy and Financial Reorganization Department at Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell and Hippel. In 1993 he joined Powell, Trachtman, Logan, Carrle and Bowman, P.C., as an associate in bankruptcy and commercial transactions. In 1995 he opened the Law Office of Joel R. Spivack and has practiced under that name since, handling a mix of consumer and commercial matters.
He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and has credentials to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court. Over the years he has maintained involvement in professional groups that touch on both the law and local governance. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers, the Camden County and Burlington County bar associations, and the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Lawyers. He has also been active with the New Jersey Planning Officials and the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. He served as a barrister in the Bankruptcy Inn of Court from 2014 to 2015.
Spivack’s work spans consumer bankruptcy cases and commercial reorganization. He represents individuals and businesses in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 matters, handles creditor-side issues, and advises on transactions that intersect with insolvency law. His practice draws on experience in both litigation and negotiated resolutions. He also works on municipal and planning questions that require legal and procedural familiarity, and he has provided pro bono assistance to arts organizations through local volunteer programs.
Clients, courts and colleagues encounter an attorney who balances case management with practical problem solving. He manages filings, hearings and negotiation, and he seeks outcomes that reflect both legal constraints and client goals. Today he continues to operate the Law Office of Joel R. Spivack, where his practice concentrates on bankruptcy, financial reorganization and related commercial matters.
