About Joel J.
Joel J. Kofsky built a legal career out of two different classrooms. He earned a B.B.A. in 1986 and an M.B.A. in 1989 from George Washington University’s Virginia campus before turning to law at Widener University Delaware School of Law. The combination of business training and legal education shapes how he runs his practice.
He began his own practice in 1991 and has maintained a solo practice since then. That practice has operated under names that include Philly Injury Lawyer and the Law Offices of Joel J. Kofsky. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and is authorized to appear in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania. Over three decades he has handled cases from initial intake through trial and appeal when necessary.
Kofsky’s courtroom work is matched by long-standing involvement in professional organizations. He joined the Philadelphia Bar Association in 1993 and the American Bar Association in 1997. He has been a member of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice since 2001 and the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association since 2010. In 2014 he became part of The National Trial Lawyers. Those memberships reflect an ongoing engagement with trial practice and developments in litigation.
Clients and peers describe his practice as litigation-oriented. He prepares cases to be tried. That preparation often means detailed fact investigation, timely use of experts, and courtroom practice. He also handles pretrial negotiations and settlement discussions when those avenues serve a client’s interests. His background in business school informs the way he evaluates damages, structures case budgets, and explains options to clients.
Kofsky’s work has centered on claims for personal injury and related disputes. He files and defends motions, conducts discovery, and tries cases in both state and federal court when the circumstances require. Rather than avoid trial, he views litigation and negotiation as complementary tools. He aims to put each case in the best position for a fair result, whether by settlement or verdict.
He continues to operate his practice in Philadelphia under the Law Offices of Joel J. Kofsky and related firm names. He currently concentrates his practice on representing injured individuals in Pennsylvania and in the federal courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania.
