About Joe
Joe Miller began his legal path at Emory University, where he earned a B.A. in political science and philosophy in 1984. He continued his studies at William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law and received his J.D. in 1987. The sequence is straightforward: a liberal arts grounding followed by three years of law school that led to courtroom work.
He entered practice in the late 1980s. In 1988 he joined Miller & Bondurant as an associate, the first stop on a career that moved quickly into leadership roles. By 1999 he was serving as president of Accidental Injury Advocates, Ltd., an organization focused on representing people injured in accidents. In 2012 he took another step and became president of Joe Miller Law, Ltd., the firm that carries his name.
Miller is licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina. He became a member of the Virginia State Bar in 1988 and joined the North Carolina State Bar in 1994. He also belongs to national and state trial and litigation groups, including the American Bar Association and the American Association for Justice, both memberships dating to 1988. That same year he joined the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association; he later affiliated with the North Carolina Advocates for Justice beginning in 1999. These memberships have put him in regular contact with peers who practice trial work across state lines.
His practice history reflects steady attention to injury cases. Early years in a small firm gave him courtroom experience. Leadership roles at specialized plaintiffs’ organizations followed, and then the founding of his own firm. The pattern suggests a practitioner who has moved from associate work to leading a small, plaintiff-focused practice. He has handled cases that require managing client communications, coordinating experts, and presenting claims in court or through negotiated settlements.
Outside of casework, Miller’s long-standing association memberships indicate ongoing engagement with professional standards and continuing legal education. He has retained active status in the bars where he is admitted. Colleagues and clients see him as a lawyer who stays involved in the professional community while running a boutique practice.
Today he operates Joe Miller Law, Ltd., holding leadership of the firm he heads. He practices in Virginia and North Carolina, handling civil litigation matters involving personal injury and accident claims as his current focus.
