About Jocelyn
Jocelyn Smith earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2006 after completing a B.A. at the University of Florida in 2002. Her legal education combined a national law school experience with an undergraduate degree from Florida, setting the stage for a practice that spans state lines.
She began her career in 2006 as a junior associate at Akerman Senterfitt. Three years later she moved into a staff lawyer role at The Legal Advocacy Center of Central Florida, where she worked until 2014. That shift introduced her to public interest work and client-facing advocacy in a nonprofit environment. In 2014 she returned to private practice as an associate at Allen Dell, P.A., and in 2017 she joined Sessions, Fishman, Nathan & Israel as an associate. She advanced to a senior associate position at Brick Business Law, P.A. in 2020.
Across those roles she has navigated both nonprofit and private firm settings. The early years at a large firm gave her exposure to firm-side systems and processes. Her time at The Legal Advocacy Center sharpened client intake and advocacy skills in a community-focused context. Subsequent associate positions involved deeper firm responsibilities and client work in the private sector.
Smith holds current memberships in The Florida Bar and the Virginia State Bar. She is admitted to practice in Florida and Virginia and maintains ties to both bar communities. That dual admission has shaped the regional scope of her practice and informs how she advises clients on jurisdictional issues.
Her work blends experience from advocacy and business-oriented firms. Colleagues describe her as methodical and steady under deadlines. She brings practical courtroom experience from earlier litigation-related tasks and a familiarity with transactional matters developed in private practice. Those elements come together in her approach to client counseling and problem solving.
Since joining Brick Business Law, P.A. as a senior associate in 2020, she has continued to build on both advocacy and transactional experience. She handles firm-level responsibilities while advising a range of clients on legal matters that cross Florida and Virginia. She currently focuses on business law matters for clients operating in Florida and Virginia.
