About Joanna L.

Joanna L. Posey has built a steady career in Oregon law that mixes courtroom work, collaborative practice and dispute resolution. She earned a B.A. from the University of Memphis and completed her J.D. at Lewis & Clark Law School in 2009, where she also obtained an Intellectual Property Law Certificate. Early on she gained experience inside the judiciary, spending time as a judicial extern in the chambers of the Honorable Robert E. Jones in 2008.

After law school she served as a law clerk at The James Law Group in 2009. She opened the Law Office of Joanna L. Posey in 2010 and moved into other firm roles over the next decade. In 2012 she worked at Landerholm Law, LLC. She later took on a managing lawyer position at Fischer Family Law in 2016. In 2019 she and colleagues formed Posey Legal, PC, where she is a founding partner.

Her career shows an interest in both traditional litigation and collaborative approaches to family disputes. That dual interest is visible in the positions she has taken within local and statewide organizations. She chaired the Family Law Section of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association from 2017 through 2020. She served as president of the Oregon Association of Collaborative Professionals from 2018 to 2019 and has remained on that board since 2014. Since 2020 she has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Section.

Posey is active in county and specialty bar groups. She has been a member of the Multnomah County Bar Association since 2017, joined the Clackamas County Bar Association and the American Association for Justice in 2018, and is part of the Gus Solomon Inn of Court. Those affiliations reflect work that spans civil litigation, family law and ADR processes.

Her legal training includes the intellectual property coursework she completed at Lewis & Clark. That background is uncommon in a practice centered on family matters, and it adds another dimension to how she approaches client issues and case strategy. Over the years she has moved between solo practice and firm roles, combining management duties with client representation.

Today Joanna L. Posey is a founding partner at Posey Legal, PC, where she maintains a practice in Oregon. She handles family law matters, collaborative practice and alternative dispute resolution at her firm.
