About Joan M.
Joan M. Bundy earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Iowa State University in 1991 and went on to receive her J.D. from the University of Arizona in 2005. Her educational background combined training in communication and law, a pairing that has informed her courtroom presence and work in both tribal and federal settings. She is admitted to practice in Arizona and in the U.S. District Court.
Bundy began her legal career in tribal prosecution. In 2005 she took a role as an assistant prosecutor for the Tohono O'odham Nation. That early work placed her in the thick of cases that raised questions about jurisdiction, community standards, and the intersection of tribal and state law. She later served as Prosecutor I and Prosecutor II for the Gila River Indian Community in 2008, handling criminal matters on tribal lands and developing experience in courtroom procedure and case management.
In 2009 Bundy opened Joan Bundy Law and has served as principal since that year. The move to private practice followed several years steeped in prosecutorial work. Her office carries the imprint of that background: a practical approach to litigation and an understanding of how criminal and tribal cases unfold from charging to resolution.
Alongside her casework, Bundy has been active in professional and community organizations. She has been a member of the State Bar of Arizona since 2006 and belongs to a number of local and regional bar associations, including the Maricopa County Bar Association, the East Valley Bar Association and the Pinal County Bar Association. She has also participated in the Federal Bar Association. Her civic involvement includes memberships in the Chandler and San Tan Valley Chambers of Commerce and the Chandler Business Alliance, tying her legal practice to the communities she serves.
An ongoing thread in Bundy’s professional life is her interest in animal law. She has been part of the Arizona State Bar Animal Law Section since 2006, serving on its Executive Council and as a past chairperson. She is also a member of the Animal Cruelty Taskforce of Southern Arizona. Between 2013 and 2015 she served on the board of Death Penalty Alternatives of Arizona. She has been involved with the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and the Arizona Women Lawyers Association, reflecting a broad set of professional interests.
Colleagues and clients know her for clear courtroom work and steady handling of complex jurisdictional issues. She continues to maintain memberships in local business and civic organizations, including the Greater Phoenix Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and the Chandler Chamber of Commerce. Joan Bundy practices at Joan Bundy Law, where her current work concentrates on matters arising at the intersection of criminal and tribal law and on animal-related legal issues.
