About Jimmy D. Long

Jimmy D. Long Jr. began his academic journey at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1982. He went on to attend Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, completing his legal studies in 1987. Those formative years set the foundation for a practice that would center on issues of succession, property and the mechanics of probate.

He launched his own practice in 1990 and has operated under the name Jimmy D. Long, Jr., L.L.C. since that time. Early work in the office covered a range of civil matters, before the practice steadily narrowed toward estate planning and administration. The decision to maintain a small, privately held firm has allowed him to handle complex estate matters personally and to remain closely involved with clients during transitions that can be both legal and personal.

Long is licensed to appear before several courts. His listed jurisdictions include the Fifth Circuit, the State of Louisiana and the United States Supreme Court. He is also Board Certified in Estate Planning and Administration by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization, a credential that indicates a concentrated practice in those subject areas and an ongoing engagement with the procedural and substantive rules that govern estates and probate.

Outside the office, Long has been a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association since 1990. That long-running affiliation has placed him among peers who address changes in state law, probate procedure and tax implications for estates. Over the years his involvement with the bar has coincided with shifts in estate planning tools and an increasing need for clarity in drafting wills, trusts and related instruments.

Clients and colleagues describe Long as a lawyer who handles the technical aspects of estate work while attending to the human details that often accompany it. He has built a practice that handles wills, trusts, probate administration and related litigation when disputes arise. He continues to accept matters through his firm, where he focuses on estate planning and administration.
