About Jim
Few lawyers start their own firm so soon after law school. Jim Goff left a sequence of associate posts and opened Goff Law, PLLC in 2023. That move capped a steady climb through Texas private practice that began after he earned his law degree.
He graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2016, completing the three-year program that prepared him for practice in Texas. The years in law school included classroom instruction, clinics and the sorts of practical training most firms look for when hiring new attorneys.
Goff began his professional career as an associate at Tillotson Law in 2016. That role was his introduction to the day-to-day responsibilities of a practicing attorney: case preparation, client contact and the procedural work that underpins litigation and transactional matters. In 2018 he moved to Fee Smith & Sharp, where he spent several years handling a broader docket and working alongside senior litigators and trial lawyers.
The experience accumulated at those firms informed his decision to launch his own practice. Opening Goff Law, PLLC in 2023 allowed him to set his own priorities and run a smaller, more nimble operation. As owner he has overseen intake, case strategy and business operations, shifting between the desk work of legal drafting and the demands of running a firm.
Across his years in practice he has been involved in representation of clients in Texas. His work has included courtroom appearances, negotiated settlements and the routine motion practice that accompanies contested matters. Colleagues note that he is comfortable both in court and at the negotiating table, balancing litigation tasks with client advisory work.
Beyond his firm roles, Goff has remained connected to the local legal community through membership in professional associations since 2016. That network has informed his approach to casework and helped him assemble a team of supporting professionals when complex matters arise.
Today he practices through Goff Law, PLLC. He continues to handle matters for clients in Texas while managing the practice and taking on the range of tasks that come with operating a small law firm. His current practice focuses on client representation in state matters in Texas.
