About Ji

Ji Kim earned his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2009 after beginning that program in 2006. His legal education in Portland provided classroom training and practical exposure during a period when immigration and juvenile protections were prominent topics in clinics and externships. The early credential set the stage for a career that moved quickly from associate roles into front-line advocacy.

Kim began his post-law school work as an associate in 2009 at MS Law. The role was his first paid position following graduation and bar qualification. In 2010 he took on pro bono work serving as an SIJS volunteer lawyer for Kids in Need of Defense, handling matters tied to Special Immigrant Juvenile Status for young clients. That volunteer experience put him in direct contact with young people navigating federal immigration rules and state family courts. In 2011 he joined the Kai Law Group as a lawyer, a position listed on his professional timeline.

Over the course of those early years, Kim combined private practice and volunteer projects. The mix gave him experience in courtroom settings, client interviews, and the preparation of immigration-sensitive petitions. He handled case intake, drafted filings, and interacted with government agencies where SIJS and related relief intersected with family law. His work with nonprofit legal services exposed him to the procedures and deadlines that often define youth immigration cases.

Kim is admitted to practice in Washington and Oregon, and he also has eligibility to appear before the Ninth Circuit. Those admissions reflect a regional practice that spans state and federal procedures. He has worked in environments that require coordination across jurisdictions and an attention to both federal immigration requirements and state-level family court practice.

Today he maintains a Seattle office available by appointment. His practice continues to include the kinds of immigration and youth-related matters he handled earlier in his career, alongside general client representation arising from his years in private practice and nonprofit legal work.
