About Jesse
Jesse Camacho builds his work at the intersection of engineering and law. He began his academic path in the engineering labs at the University of Missouri–Columbia, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in computer engineering and electrical engineering. He later returned to the same campus for a law degree and a master of business administration. Later still he completed a master of divinity, an uncommon detour for someone in intellectual property practice.
Camacho moved quickly into private practice after law school. He became an equity partner at Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP in 2001, a role that placed him in litigation and transactional teams handling complex commercial matters. That period of his career sharpened his courtroom instincts and exposed him to large-scale disputes involving technical subject matter.
He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and holds licenses in California and Missouri. Those credentials reflect the blend of technical training and legal qualification that often underpins patent work. Colleagues say his engineering background helps him translate technical concepts into legal strategy.
In 2021 Camacho took on the role of chair of the Intellectual Property Group at Practus, LLP. The title signals a leadership position within the firm’s IP practice and an ongoing role in guiding client work and mentoring younger attorneys. His duties have included overseeing patent prosecution matters and advising on intellectual property positions in transactions and disputes.
Clients see a methodical lawyer who prefers clarity over flourish. He lays out issues plainly and ties advice to practical choices. That style is consistent with his educational mix: rigorous technical training, legal analysis, and business context. The divinity degree has given him another perspective on ethics and communication, a point he references in discussions about professional responsibility.
Over the years Camacho has balanced private practice with internal leadership. He continues to handle matters that require both legal judgment and technical literacy, often involving complex technologies. He also plays a role in shaping how his firm approaches intellectual property work and how younger lawyers are trained.
Jesse Camacho is based at Practus, LLP, where he leads the Intellectual Property Group and continues to practice patent law and related intellectual property matters.
