About Jeremy R.
Jeremy R. Summerlin built his legal foundation in South Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from Bob Jones University in 2009, then went on to receive a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2013. Those years on campus shaped his early interests in public service and advocacy.
He cut his teeth in court and agency settings while still a student. Summerlin spent time as an intern at the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office in 2009. He later took law clerk roles at Protection & Advocacy for People with Disabilities, Inc., and at Palmetto Family in 2011. In 2012 he served as a law clerk at the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Education at the National Advocacy Center. Those positions exposed him to litigation, administrative practice, and client-focused advocacy.
After law school he moved into private practice and employment law. In 2013 he worked as an associate at the Law Office of W. Andrew Arnold, P.C. Three years later he is listed as an employment lawyer at Horton Law Office, P.A. His work has included representing individuals and advising employers on workplace matters. He is admitted to practice in South Carolina and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Outside routine casework, Summerlin’s career has included stints that bridged legal practice and community service. He served in the South Carolina State Guard as a first lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps from 2016 to 2020. He also took part in hospital-community relations as a member of the North Greenville Medical Campus Community Advisory Council during that same period. Earlier, he was part of Greenville PULSE from 2014 to 2016 and has held membership in the Greenville County Bar Association since 2014.
Peers and clients encounter a lawyer who moves between courtroom details and organizational roles with ease. He has handled matters that require both litigation strategy and attention to administrative procedure. Today he practices at Horton Law Office, P.A., where he represents clients in employment and related civil matters. His current practice focuses on employment law matters in South Carolina and appeals before the Fourth Circuit.
