About Jennifer S
Jennifer S McDonald built her legal foundation at the University of Colorado. She earned dual undergraduate degrees in broadcast journalism and English from the Boulder campus in 2006. She returned to the University of Colorado Law School and completed her Juris Doctor in 2011.
After law school, McDonald spent early years gaining courtroom and client experience. In 2012 she worked at the Law Office of Dennis A. Lacerte, where she handled family law matters and learned the practical demands of litigation and negotiation. Those years provided a steady diet of contested hearings, custody evaluations, and settlement conferences.
In 2018 she opened The Law Office of Jennifer S. McDonald, LLC. As owner and principal, she manages both the legal work and the day-to-day operations of a small firm. Her practice balances courtroom advocacy with alternative dispute resolution and investigative tasks, and she oversees matters from initial intake through trial preparation when needed.
McDonald has pursued additional training relevant to family law practice. She completed a 40-hour mediation training through Mares-Dixon & Associates and undertook Child and Family Investigator training provided by the Office of the State Court Administrator. Those programs inform how she approaches custody evaluations, settlement discussions, and the use of third-party professionals in family disputes.
She has been active in local professional organizations. Since 2018 she has served on the Programs Committee of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association. Earlier, she held membership in the Colorado Bar Association’s Family Law Section from 2011 until 2019. Participation in those groups has kept her connected to changing practice rules, continuing legal education, and panels addressing family law trends in Colorado.
Her day-to-day work concentrates on family law matters. That includes divorce, child custody and parenting-time disputes, child support issues, and mediation services. She also draws on her training as a child and family investigator when courts or parties seek an independent evaluation.
McDonald maintains a private practice in Colorado through The Law Office of Jennifer S. McDonald, LLC and handles family law, mediation, and related child-and-family investigation work.
