About Jennifer L.
Jennifer L. McKown earned her law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2000. She completed a master's degree in public affairs the same year at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and she holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and English from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, awarded in 1996. Those academic years set the stage for a steady legal career rooted in Alabama.
She moved into practice soon after graduation. In 2001 she joined Hornsby, Watson, Hornsby & Blackwell as a lawyer. Two years later she became a partner at Hornsby, Watson, Hornsby, Blackwell & McKown. In 2010 she established her own practice, Jennifer L. McKown, Lawyer at Law. Beginning in 2016 she also took an of-counsel role at Blackwell Law Office.
Her professional standing is anchored by longstanding bar membership. She has been a member of the Alabama State Bar since 2000 and of the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association since 2000 as well. She was a member of the American Inns of Court from 2001 through 2011. Court admissions include the Supreme Court of Alabama, the state courts of Alabama, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
Colleagues and clients have known her through both solo practice and association with a larger firm. The shift from partner at a regional firm to running a private practice reflects a change in how she organizes client work and courtroom appearances. Her of-counsel role at Blackwell Law Office allows collaboration on matters that intersect with the resources of a team environment while retaining the autonomy of her own practice.
Her career path shows steady local engagement. She maintains active ties to the Huntsville-Madison County legal community through long-standing bar memberships. That local involvement has run alongside steady courtroom work in state courts and in the federal district where she is admitted.
As of 2026 she continues to operate Jennifer L. McKown, Lawyer at Law while serving of counsel to Blackwell Law Office, representing clients in Alabama state courts and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
