Jeffrey J Ferguson earned his law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law, completing his J.D. in 2009 after beginning legal studies in 2007. He arrived in the profession during a period of steady change in the courts and carried that timing into the start of his career. Early practical experience came while he was still a student and helped shape the direction of his work.
In 2008 he served as a legal intern at the Greene County Common Pleas Court. That placement gave him direct exposure to courtroom procedure and local practice. Two years after graduation he joined Ferguson & Ferguson LLC as a partner in 2010, a role that moved him from learning the ropes to taking responsibility for client matters and firm operations. In 2020 he became firm principal of Ferguson Legal Group LTD, overseeing the firm’s strategic and day-to-day efforts.
Ferguson is admitted to practice in Ohio and holds standing before the U.S. Tax Court and the Second Circuit. Those admissions reflect a practice that crosses both state and federal forums. He maintains memberships in the Dayton Bar Association and the Greene County Bar Association, remaining active in local professional circles. His training includes a Project Management certification from Washington University, a credential he has applied to case workflow and practice administration.
Colleagues describe his approach as methodical and focused on the mechanics of case preparation. He blends trial experience from the Greene County courthouse with appellate and tax court work when cases require escalation. The move from a local partner role to leading his own firm has put him in charge of staffing, client intake, and litigation strategy, roles that suit the administrative training he pursued.
Over time Ferguson’s work has spanned courtroom appearances, filings in federal tribunals, and matters that require careful procedural navigation. He continues to handle cases that proceed through trial and, when necessary, through appeals and tax litigation. He currently focuses on litigation in Ohio, matters before the U.S. Tax Court and appeals in the Second Circuit.
