About Jeffrey D
Jeffrey D Ryding studied journalism at the University of Oregon and went on to earn his law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School. He completed his undergraduate studies in 2011 and received his J.D. in 2015. The combination of reporting training and legal education shaped a practical approach to fact-gathering and courtroom narrative.
Early in his career he joined Public Defender Services of Lane County as a trial lawyer in 2016. That role put him in court frequently. He handled arraignments, pretrial hearings and jury trials. The work demanded rapid legal research, persuasive oral advocacy and careful preparation of witnesses and exhibits. Those years established a foundation in criminal defense practice and courtroom procedure.
In 2020 he moved into private practice as an associate at Grecco Downs, PLLC. At the firm he continued to represent people facing criminal charges. His background at the public defender office informs how he evaluates cases, negotiates pleas and prepares for trial. He appears in state courts across Oregon and also holds licensure in Washington, allowing him to assist clients in both states.
Ryding maintains an active role in the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He has served on the board of directors since 2019 and participates in the association’s programs for practitioners. That involvement keeps him connected to developments in case law and courtroom practice, and it provides opportunities to collaborate with other criminal defense attorneys in the region.
Colleagues describe his courtroom manner as direct. He tends to rely on careful examination of records and targeted advocacy rather than theatrical tactics. Outside the courtroom he drafts motions and briefs, consults on pretrial strategy and works with investigators when cases require additional fact development. He also contributes to training events run by professional groups.
Today he practices at Grecco Downs, PLLC, representing clients in criminal matters in Oregon and Washington. His current practice centers on trial work, pretrial litigation and case resolution for people charged in state courts.
