About Jeffrey Burton
Jeffrey Burton Kahn studied accounting and international business before turning to law. He earned a B.B.A. from Florida International University in 1983. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law in 1988 and followed that with an LL.M. in Tax in 1989.
Kahn combined technical accounting training and graduate tax education early in his career. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Florida and later pursued credentials in tax law. Those qualifications have shaped the work he does and the clients he represents.
He is licensed to practice in both California and Florida. Kahn is board certified in tax law by the Florida Bar and by the California State Bar. That dual certification places him among a small number of practitioners who hold specialty recognition in tax law in two major jurisdictions.
Kahn serves as principal of the Law Offices Of Jeffrey B. Kahn, P.C. He has operated the firm from multiple California locations, handling matters that range from tax controversy to planning for individuals and businesses. His background in accounting informs how he approaches audits, administrative appeals and federal and state tax litigation.
Over the years Kahn has maintained a presence in both Southern and Northern California. He works out of offices in Orange County, North San Diego County/Carlsbad, South LA/Long Beach, East LA/Ontario, Walnut Creek, San Jose and San Francisco. The dispersed footprint reflects a practice that handles matters across the state rather than one tied to a single courthouse or neighborhood.
Clients in need of tax guidance often bring complex factual records. Kahn’s training allows him to parse financial statements and to address technical tax issues. He represents taxpayers in disputes before administrative bodies and in court when cases proceed to litigation. He also advises on transactional tax concerns for companies and their owners.
Kahn’s professional path is a mix of accounting, advanced tax study and courtroom work. That combination informs both advisory and contentious matters he accepts. He currently focuses his practice on federal and state tax controversy, tax planning, and related civil litigation.
