About Jeffrey

Jeffrey Buehner earned his J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1995. He began his legal career while still close to the courthouse, serving as a law clerk at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office in 1993. That early exposure to public practice shaped the next steps of his career.

After law school he took on prosecutorial work. He joined the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office as an assistant prosecuting lawyer in 1995. Two years later he moved to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, where he continued as an assistant prosecuting lawyer. Those positions gave him courtroom time and experience handling criminal matters at the county level.

By 2001 Buehner shifted into private practice, joining the firm Blake Kirchner Symonds Larson Kennedy & Smith. He spent the next phase of his career at that firm, applying his trial experience to the civil side of practice as well as continuing court work. In 2003 he opened his own practice, Jeffrey Buehner, PLLC. He has led that firm since then.

His federal admissions followed the move into private practice. He was admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in 2002, and to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan in 2003. Those admissions expanded the venues where he can file and defend cases.

Buehner has remained active in legal organizations. He served on the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2001 to 2006. He is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association and the Michigan Association for Justice. He also participates on the Legal Committee of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, reflecting an interest in the legal issues around state and federal regulatory differences.

His background spans public and private practice. Years as a prosecutor gave him a front-row view of trial procedure and evidence. Years in private practice provided experience handling contested matters in both state and federal courts. Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in court and thorough in preparation.

He continues to practice from Jeffrey Buehner, PLLC. He handles matters in Michigan state courts and in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.
