About Jaye
Jaye Meyer built a legal career that blends courtroom experience, committee work and professional credentialing. She earned her B.A. from Wake Forest University in 1983 and a J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 1990. Those years set a steady foundation for a practice rooted in family law and legal administration.
Meyer joined Tharrington Smith, LLP as a lawyer in 1992. Over the decades that followed she kept one foot in private practice and another in civic legal institutions. Colleagues and peers have encountered her most often in family law matters, but also in the meetings and panels where the rules and standards for the profession are debated and refined.
She is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law through the North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization. She also holds certification as a Family Financial Mediator from the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission. Those credentials reflect a mix of litigation skill and an attention to financial issues that commonly arise in divorce and post-divorce matters.
Meyer’s involvement in bar governance and specialty boards is long-standing. She has been a member of the North Carolina Board of Law Examiners since 2007 and has served as its chair since 2015. Her work there places her at the center of lawyer licensing and the standards applied to new entrants to the bar. She has also been involved with the North Carolina State Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization and served as past chair of its Family Law Specialization Committee. Her ties to the North Carolina Bar Association go back to 1990, including roles on the Family Law Council and a term as chair of the Family Law Section and its Continuing Legal Education Curriculum Committee around 2000–2001.
Outside state bodies, Meyer joined the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ North Carolina chapter as a fellow in 2001. That affiliation connects her to a national network of family law practitioners and contributes to continuing education and peer review.
Her career shows sustained engagement in both individual client work and the institutional frameworks that shape family law practice in North Carolina. She practices family law and related matters at Tharrington Smith, LLP.
