About Jay Paul
Jay Paul Coleman has worked across public service and private practice in Arkansas and Tennessee. His career runs through a series of short, hands-on roles that expose him to different corners of the legal system. He moved from policy work into client-centered legal roles and now operates his own firm.
Coleman's early professional years included policy analysis for a federal agency. In 2016 he worked at the United States Department of Agriculture as a policy analyst. That role placed him inside a large regulatory environment and introduced him to complex administrative processes. After that he transitioned to the private sector as a subrogation analyst for Benefit Recovery Group in 2017, where he handled claims and recovery matters that involved both legal and financial considerations.
He then shifted toward direct client services. In 2019 Coleman served as a student advocate at the Children’s Law Center. That was followed by staff lawyer positions at legal services organizations. In 2020 he joined The Center for Arkansas Legal Services as a staff lawyer. The work there emphasized access to counsel for low-income clients and a steady stream of civil matters. He later worked as a staff lawyer at The James Law Office. In 2022 he served on the Arkansas Public Defender’s Commission as a public defender, representing people in the criminal justice system and gaining courtroom experience.
Also in 2022, Coleman opened The Law Offices of J. Paul Coleman. The firm marks his move into independent practice and offers him a platform to apply the range of skills he has collected. His background in policy, subrogation, legal aid and public defense informs how he evaluates cases and counsels clients. The sequence of positions shows an attorney who has seen legal problems from several angles: policy formation, claims recovery, child advocacy, civil legal services and criminal defense.
Coleman is licensed to practice in Tennessee and Arkansas. He has held membership in the Arkansas Bar Association since 2020 and maintains professional ties in both states. His work history suggests an attorney comfortable in court, in negotiation, and in advising clients on practical next steps. He runs a small practice that handles matters arising from his prior roles rather than a single niche.
He currently operates The Law Offices of J. Paul Coleman and represents clients in Arkansas and Tennessee, applying experience from public defense, civil legal services, and related legal work to his current practice.
