About Jay
Jay Greene earned a Master of Accountancy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2001 and a J.D. from Samford University in 2003. Those two degrees define much of his professional arc. He trained as an accountant and then retrained as a lawyer. The combination shows in the kinds of work he has done since.
He began his career in finance. In 1999 he worked as a Reconcilement Specialist at Regions Financial Corporation and as an Assumed Reinsurance Accountant for Vesta Insurance Group. He moved to Protective Life soon after, taking roles that ranged from Reinsurance Controller to Financial Analyst and, by 2006, Director of Investment Reporting and Compliance. Those years in insurance and investment reporting gave him direct exposure to corporate accounting, regulatory filings and the internal controls that large financial firms rely on.
Greene shifted into private practice in the late 2000s. He founded Greene Law Office, LLC in Birmingham in 2008. Six years later he established Jay Greene Law Office in San Francisco. He is admitted to practice in Alabama and California, and he has built practices in both states. The move to California broadened his client base and connected him to a different business and legal community.
Outside the office he maintains steady involvement in professional and community organizations. He is a member of the board of the Golden Gate Business Association, a panel lawyer for the AIDS Legal Referral Panel of the San Francisco Bay Area, and a founding member of the Cumberland School of Law Alumni Admission Advisory Board. He also lists founding membership in Lawyers with Purpose. Those roles reflect ongoing ties to legal education, pro bono referral networks and business groups in the Bay Area.
Greene’s background in accountancy and insurance accounting informs the work he does as a lawyer. He brings a numbers-first perspective to legal questions, and he often handles matters where financial detail and regulatory compliance are central. He represents businesses and individuals who require counsel that understands both law and ledgers. He currently practices at Jay Greene Law Office in San Francisco, handling legal matters that draw on his combined legal and financial experience.
