About Jason M.
Jason M. Melton earned a B.A. in history from Southern Methodist University in 1996 and a J.D. from The Catholic University of America in 2002. His academic years combined a traditional liberal arts foundation with law school training that led directly to courtroom work.
He began his legal career in 2002 as an Assistant State Lawyer in the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida. In that role he handled prosecutions and gained early experience in courtroom procedure, witness preparation and trial practice. The work offered a steady immersion in criminal matters and the realities of litigating on behalf of the state.
In 2006 he moved into private practice, founding the Law Offices of Jason M. Melton, P.A. Three years later he joined Whittel & Melton, LLC as managing partner. Those steps marked a shift from public service to an established presence in private litigation. Over time he has combined roles as firm owner and partner, managing litigation teams and overseeing case strategy.
He is admitted to practice in Florida and in the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida. His peers have recognized him with an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which appears on his professional record.
Melton is active in several professional organizations. He holds membership in the Florida Bar, the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Association for Justice, the Hernando and Citrus County Bar Associations, and the Citrus-Hernando Inn of Court. Since 2019 he has been a founding member of the National Academy of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers. Locally, he serves in a civic legal role as a Teen Court judge for Hernando County small claims mediation.
Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer who learned early how cases are built from the ground up. He came up through prosecution and then translated that courtroom experience into private practice and firm leadership. He regularly appears in both state and federal courtrooms tied to the jurisdictions where he is admitted.
Today he practices at Whittel & Melton, LLC. He represents clients in state and federal courts and continues to handle trial work on their behalf.
