About Jan Ellen
Jan Ellen Copley is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. She was admitted to the California State Bar in 1981 and holds bar number 100613. Her license is currently in active status. Ms. Copley is the principal attorney at Pasadena Law Group, a law firm located in Pasadena, California. She has been practicing law for over forty years, serving clients throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
Ms. Copley earned her Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, where she graduated in 1981. Prior to law school, she completed her undergraduate education at Occidental College, receiving an A.B. in American Studies, cum laude, in 1977. During her time at Loyola, she was on the Dean’s List for two of her three years and served on the law review staff.
Ms. Copley concentrates her practice in the areas of estate planning, business planning, elder law, asset protection planning, trust administration, and probate cases. She represents individuals and businesses in matters involving health care directives, trusts, wills, and business succession planning. Her practice encompasses all stages of legal work, including initial case evaluation, document preparation, negotiations, and court proceedings in both state and federal courts.
Throughout her career, Ms. Copley has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles and the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. Prior to founding Pasadena Law Group, she founded her own firm in 1993, built it into a profitable law practice with a sterling reputation, and successfully sold her business at the beginning of 2010. She then worked as a Certified Practice Advisor for Atticus, Inc., coaching successful lawyers who wanted to make more money and take more time off. After two years, she returned to practicing law in 2013 and resumed her role as principal of Pasadena Law Group.
Ms. Copley is an active member of the California State Bar Association. She has been recognized as a Top Attorney by Pasadena Magazine in 2013, 2015, and 2016. She is also a contributing author to "Business Succession Planning: Strategies for California Estate Planners and Business Attorneys" (CEB 2013), writing the materials in Chapter 17 on succession planning for medical practices. Ms. Copley is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing her to serve the diverse communities of Los Angeles County effectively.
