About James Rylee
James Rylee Deen built a legal career that spans corporate corridors and solo practice offices. He earned a B.A. in French and Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis in 1972. He then attended Stanford Law School and received his J.D. in 1976.
He entered private practice as an associate at Schiff Hardin LLP in 1977. A few years later he moved in-house. In 1981 he joined Cooper Industries, Inc. as Associate General Counsel, Corporate and Antitrust Compliance. Cooper Industries later became part of Eaton Corporation. At Cooper he handled compliance matters and advised on corporate issues during a period of active regulatory scrutiny.
After his time in industry, Deen returned to practice under his own name. Records show he worked as James R. Deen, Lawyer at Law in Santa Rosa in 2011 and continued to practice as James R. Deen in 2014. He is admitted to practice in Texas, Illinois and California and has worked on matters that reflect both corporate counsel and outside counsel perspectives.
Deen’s background in antitrust compliance and corporate law informs his approach to business matters. He has experience advising companies on compliance programs, transactional issues and regulatory concerns. He has represented clients in counseling roles and handled transactional work for businesses of varying sizes. His career mixes law firm training and in-house counsel experience, which he applies to practical legal questions for business clients.
He is a member of the Desert Bar Association, joining that group in 2016. His professional memberships and the mix of public- and private-sector roles suggest a steady engagement with both local bar activities and corporate governance issues.
Now practicing under his own name in Santa Rosa, Deen continues to handle corporate law, antitrust compliance and related business matters. He maintains a private practice where he provides legal counsel to companies and individuals on transactional and compliance issues.
