About James R.
James R. Selth built his legal foundation at the University of California, Riverside, where he earned a B.A. in 1979. He completed his law degree at Western State College of Law at Argosy University in 1983. Those years set the stage for a career that has moved between public service and private practice.
Early in his career he served as a deputy district lawyer in Orange County beginning in 1986. That role gave him courtroom experience and exposure to trial work. He left public employment for private practice in the early 1990s and shifted toward litigation and bankruptcy matters.
In 1994 he became a partner at McKinley & Capeloto. He later joined Weintraub & Selth, APC as a partner in 2002. Over time his practice remained tied to insolvency, creditor-debtor disputes and related litigation. His trajectory shows a steady movement from government service to firm leadership.
He is admitted to practice in California and holds admissions in several federal jurisdictions, including the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of California, the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The State Bar of California has certified him as a Legal Specialist in Bankruptcy Law, a credential that marks a concentrated practice area.
Selth now practices at Weintraub Zolkin Talerico & Selth. His work encompasses bankruptcy cases, creditor and debtor representation, and related contested matters in federal and state courts. He continues to handle filings and adversary proceedings, and he represents clients in both negotiated and litigated resolutions. He currently focuses his practice on bankruptcy and related litigation.
