About James P.

James P. Doré began his professional path in Louisiana courts after completing formal studies at Louisiana State University. He earned a B.A. in 1969 and continued at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, receiving his J.D. in 1973. Those years in Baton Rouge set the tone for a career spent largely in state and federal courtrooms across Louisiana.

Doré moved into public service immediately after law school, joining the Louisiana Department of Justice in 1973. He worked there at the start of a career that would span private practice and significant bar involvement. Over time he became a partner at Kean Miller LLP, where he has handled trials and complex litigation. He is a familiar figure to judges and opposing counsel across multiple districts in the state.

He is admitted to practice before a range of courts. Those admissions include the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the federal district courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, in addition to the Louisiana state bar. That courtroom access reflects decades of active litigation practice and repeated appearances at both trial and appellate levels.

Associations and bar activities occupy a substantial portion of Doré’s professional life. He holds memberships in the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and the Baton Rouge Bar Association. He is a fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation and serves on the board of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. He also belongs to the Federal Fifth Circuit Bar Association, the 18th and 19th Judicial District Bar Associations, and the American Board of Trial Advocacy. Outside the bar, he maintains a presence in the civic sphere through membership in the Baton Rouge Area Foundation.

Colleagues describe his courtroom approach as methodical. He has decades of contested litigation behind him. His memberships in trial-focused groups and defense organizations indicate a practice built on adversary proceedings and jury work. He has handled matters at the trial level and taken appeals to higher courts when cases required further review.

Doré practices from Kean Miller LLP’s offices and continues to appear in state and federal venues. He maintains active roles in professional organizations and remains engaged in litigation work. He currently concentrates his practice on civil litigation and trial work at Kean Miller LLP.
