About James G
James G Baker trained as both an accountant and a lawyer. He earned a Bachelor of Professional Accountancy from Mississippi State University in 1994, then went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Mississippi College School of Law in 1998. Those early choices shaped the way he approaches legal problems: methodically, with attention to numbers and documents as well as to precedent and procedure.
After law school Baker began a legal career in Georgia. Over the years he has taken cases to state courts and to the federal bench, and he is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit as well as in Georgia. His courtroom work has included both trial and appellate filings, and he has spent time drafting briefs, arguing motions and managing discovery. He made a point early on to keep an eye on the financial side of disputes, using his accounting background to analyze records and explain complex figures to judges and opposing counsel.
Colleagues and clients have noted that Baker brings a careful, evidence-driven style to litigation. He is the sort of lawyer who reads financial statements as closely as depositions. That combination has made him a regular choice in matters where business records and legal theory intersect. He has worked on cases involving contract disputes, business breakups and other civil controversies that demand both legal analysis and numerical clarity.
Baker’s practice has also included appellate work. Writing is a central component of that work, and he has spent substantial time crafting appellate briefs and legal memoranda. Appeals require a different rhythm than trials. He adapts by narrowing issues, focusing on legal standards and presenting arguments in a structured way.
Outside the courtroom Baker has taken on the kind of case management responsibilities that keep complex matters moving. He has overseen discovery plans, coordinated with expert witnesses, and managed document review projects. Those tasks are time-consuming and detail heavy. He treats them as integral to the outcome of a case rather than as background chores.
Today Baker is based in Georgia and practices in federal and state courts. He draws on his dual background in accounting and law to handle disputes that involve technical financial questions and appellate issues. His current practice focuses on litigation and appellate work involving business and financial matters.
