About James Eric
James Eric Kirkland was admitted to the State Bar of California on December 13, 1990. He is currently associated with Kirkland Law PC, where he has been providing legal services. His license status is currently inactive, but he continues to operate his firm and offer legal counsel in various areas of law.
Kirkland earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Lipscomb University in 1987. He later obtained his Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1990. His academic background has provided him with a strong foundation in both business and legal principles, which he has applied throughout his career.
His practice areas include the cannabis industry and business law. Within the cannabis sector, he has handled matters related to corporate structure, private offerings, secured debt financing, tax issues, licensing agreements, and equity incentive plans. In business law, he has experience with corporate finance, securities offerings, and various contracts and agreements, as well as state, local, and municipal law.
Kirkland has held various positions throughout his career, including Owner, Founder, and CEO of multiple ventures since 2006. He has also served as President and General Counsel, Partner, and Associate in different legal capacities. He has been the lead attorney on over $260 million in private offerings for cannabis companies since May 2016. He is admitted to practice before the California State Courts, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
