About James Craig
James Craig Swapp earned his J.D. from The University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1991. He entered the legal profession at a time of change in the early 1990s. The law school years set the groundwork for a practice that would stretch across several states and into trial work.
He began his career practicing law in the Intermountain West and later helped establish his own firm. As founding partner of Craig Swapp & Associates, he shifted from associate roles to firm leadership. That move placed him in charge of case strategy, client intake and trial preparation. Over time he built a practice supported by a team of lawyers and staff, and he continues to manage the firm’s operations.
Swapp is admitted to practice in Washington, Idaho and Utah. Those admissions allow him to take cases that cross state lines and to appear in courts throughout the region. He is a member of The American Trial Lawyers Association and participates in professional groups that support trial practice and litigation skills. Those memberships reflect an ongoing engagement with courtroom advocacy and procedural developments.
His work centers on litigation and trial representation. He handles matters that require pretrial investigation, motion work, and courtroom advocacy. Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and pragmatic in settlement discussions. He balances trial preparedness with attempts to resolve disputes before jury selection when that is in a client’s interests.
Craig Swapp & Associates operates from multiple offices, allowing the firm to serve clients in the areas where Swapp holds licenses. As founding partner, Swapp continues to take an active role in case management and courtroom work. He oversees the firm’s litigation strategy and remains involved in significant matters from intake through resolution. He also mentors younger attorneys at the firm and helps shape their trial skills.
Across three jurisdictions and a multi-office practice, Swapp has maintained a steady litigation practice since graduating law school. He remains active in professional organizations that emphasize trial advocacy, and he leads his firm’s litigation efforts. His current practice focuses on litigation and trial representation across Washington, Idaho and Utah.
