About Jacqueline
Jacqueline McMahon brings a practical, courtroom-tested background to her practice. She studied at Fordham University, where she completed a B.A. in psychology and sociology in 2008. She stayed at Fordham for law school and earned her J.D. in 2012. Those years on campus included roles as a teaching assistant in legal writing and in legislation and regulation, experiences that shaped how she explains complex legal ideas to clients and colleagues.
Her career began in New Jersey courts. In 2012 she served as a law clerk for the Honorable Martin Cronin of the New Jersey Superior Court, observing motion practice and opinion drafting from the judge’s vantage. As a law student she also spent time in public interest work. In 2011 she interned with The Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Practice, an early exposure to advocacy for young people.
After graduation she moved into public prosecution. In 2013 McMahon joined the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office as an assistant prosecutor. The post provided courtroom experience and a steady stream of front-line litigation work. She later transitioned back to private practice, taking associate positions in 2015 that broadened her portfolio.
In 2015 she joined Ruane Lawyers as an associate and took a concurrent associate role at Lady Divorce. Those roles offered time on both civil and family law matters and sharpened her client-facing skills. Throughout, she retained ties to Connecticut professional circles. Since 2015 she has been a member of the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, a sign of ongoing engagement with criminal defense practice in the state.
Her background mixes courtroom time, public service and private-practice experience. She has moved between prosecution and defense work and handled matters touching family law through her work with a divorce-focused practice. Teaching roles at Fordham during and immediately after law school suggest an ability to translate legal strategy into plain language for clients and juries alike.
McMahon is admitted to practice in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey, and she maintains offices in Shelton and Wethersfield. She currently practices criminal defense and family law from those offices, representing clients across Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
