About Jacob
Jacob Rheaume studied at the University of New Hampshire before earning his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He arrived at law school after an undergraduate education in New Hampshire and left with a law degree that opened doors into transactional practice in Illinois.
Rheaume moved into private practice soon after graduation. In 2019 he joined Messer Strickler, Ltd. as an associate lawyer. He worked on corporate and commercial matters there, gaining day-to-day experience drafting agreements and assisting on closings. Two years later he took an in-house style role as senior transactional counsel at Rock Fusco & Connelly, LLC. That position placed him nearer to large deal processes and internal client coordination, where he handled contracts, negotiated terms and helped prepare transactional documents.
In 2023 Rheaume became a finance associate at Scott & Kraus. The title reflects a turn toward lending and finance work. At Scott & Kraus he has worked on matters that touch commercial lending, loan documentation and finance-related transactional support. His duties have included reviewing credit agreements, preparing security documents and coordinating among lenders, borrowers and other counsel during closings.
Rheaume is licensed to practice in Illinois. He has built a practice shaped by successive roles that emphasized both external client representation and internal transactional management. Those experiences give him familiarity with the mechanics of deals as well as the written work required to close them.
Colleagues describe Rheaume as pragmatic in his approach to transactions. He tends to favor clear drafting and practical risk allocation. He is comfortable handling multi-party documents and resolving drafting inconsistencies before they become barriers to closing.
Outside of deal days he has been involved in regular professional activities related to the bar and the transactional bar community. He maintains professional connections in Chicago and draws on those networks when matters require local counsel or specialized expertise.
Rheaume’s career path shows a steady narrowing toward finance and transactional law. He continues to practice at Scott & Kraus LLC, where his current work centers on commercial lending and finance-related transactions.
