About Jacob
Jacob Blizzard studied political science and economics before turning to law. He began his undergraduate studies at Howard Payne University in 2002 and later transferred to the University of Houston, where he completed a B.A. in 2007. He earned his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2010. Those years set the foundation for a practice centered on criminal law and appellate work.
He entered private practice soon after law school and became managing partner at Blizzard & Zimmerman, Lawyers & Counselors at Law in 2011. The firm grew under his leadership, handling matters in state and federal courts. He is admitted to practice in Texas and has courtroom credentials before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Blizzard has sought formal recognition of specialty work. He holds Board Certification in Criminal Law and a separate Board Certification in Criminal Appellate from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Those credentials reflect sustained attention to criminal defense and appeals rather than a generalist practice.
Outside the courtroom he has been active in local and regional lawyer organizations. He has been a member of the Abilene Bar Association since 2011 and of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association from 2011 to the present. He held leadership roles in the Big Country Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, serving as treasurer in 2014 and as vice president from 2015 to 2018. In 2015 he served as president of the Abilene Young Lawyers Association.
His work mixes trial and appellate matters. He handles criminal cases in state courts and represents clients in federal appellate matters. The dual board certifications allow him to address both the trial-level issues and the legal arguments that follow in appeals.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and deliberate in court. He spends much of his week on casework, motions practice, and appellate briefing. He also devotes time to mentoring younger lawyers and participating in bar activities in Abilene.
He continues to lead Blizzard & Zimmerman, Lawyers & Counselors at Law and to represent clients in criminal trials and appeals in Texas and federal courts.
