About J. William Snyder

J. William Snyder Jr. built his legal foundation at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1992 and returned to the same campus to complete his J.D. in 1995. Those years set the stage for a career that has spanned multiple state and federal courts.

Early in his career he worked with Charles O. Peed, an experience that shaped his day-to-day approach to client work and courtroom procedure. He moved from classroom practice to courtroom practice quickly. Memberships and professional activity followed almost immediately after graduation.

Snyder holds admissions across several jurisdictions. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina and South Carolina, and he maintains bar membership in Virginia. He is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Those credentials have allowed him to handle cases at both the trial and appellate levels.

His peers and clients encounter one formal credential in particular: he is a Board Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation Law through the North Carolina State Bar. That certification marks a defined area of practice within the state licensing system. It complements a steady record of involvement in professional organizations tied to injury law and trial practice.

Snyder is an active member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and has been part of its Workers' Compensation Section since 1995. He also sits on the council of the North Carolina Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Section and has belonged to that association since 1995. In Virginia he holds bar membership and has been part of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association's Workers' Compensation Section since 2002. He also maintains membership in the South Carolina State Bar.

Colleagues describe Snyder as pragmatic in court and straightforward with clients. He tends to favor clear explanations that help people understand the process and the likely path of a case. He handles hearings, claim disputes, and appellate filing where the record supports additional review. His courtroom practice is informed by years of hands-on experience across neighboring state systems.

He currently practices in matters arising under workers' compensation law and represents clients before state and federal tribunals on those issues.
