About J. Steven

J. Steven Kennedy trained in three different states before arriving in California law. He earned a B.A. at the University of Texas at Austin in 1967, then pursued graduate study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, receiving an M.A. in 1974. He completed his legal education at the University of California, Los Angeles, taking his J.D. in 1975.

After law school he entered practice as a civil litigation attorney. His work has centered on contested business and civil disputes in California courts. Over the years he has represented clients in trial and pretrial settings and handled matters that required close attention to procedure and evidence. He has remained in private practice throughout his career.

Kennedy is admitted to practice in California. He has kept his practice small and focused, choosing to handle litigation matters directly rather than build a large firm. That approach has shaped the way he manages cases: a steady pace, straightforward arguments, and an emphasis on clear communication with clients.

Education has continued to inform his work. The combination of a liberal arts undergraduate degree, a graduate degree from Illinois, and a law degree from UCLA contributes to how he assesses complex factual patterns. He is known among peers for a practical approach to case preparation and for relying on established procedure when presenting matters to judges and opposing counsel.

Today he maintains a private practice under the name Law Offices of J. Steven Kennedy. The office handles civil litigation matters in state courts and offers representation at every stage of dispute resolution, from initial pleadings to trial. Clients range from individuals to small businesses seeking counsel in contested matters.

Outside of courtroom filings and hearings, Kennedy spends time reviewing briefs, drafting motions, and preparing witnesses for testimony. He prefers work that requires careful legal analysis and precise drafting. He also values direct client contact and works to keep clients informed about developments in their cases.

As of 2026 he continues to practice law in California at the Law Offices of J. Steven Kennedy. His current practice concentrates on civil litigation matters in California.
