About J. Stephen
J. Stephen Street is an attorney based in Honolulu, Hawaii, with a specialized focus on intellectual property law and legal malpractice. With over 50 years of experience in the legal field, he has developed a robust practice that includes handling complex business litigation, copyright and trademark infringement cases, and trade secret litigation. His expertise extends to legal malpractice defense, antitrust and trade regulation, as well as franchisor/franchisee disputes. Additionally, he has successfully represented clients in wrongful termination actions and various employment claims. Throughout his extensive career, Mr. Street has demonstrated his litigation skills in a variety of settings. He has participated in jury and bench trials, appeals, private arbitrations, mediations, and administrative hearings.
His versatility is further highlighted by his role as an arbitrator, where he has contributed to resolving disputes outside of the courtroom. This breadth of experience equips him to handle the requirements of legal issues that his clients face. Mr. Street earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1970, a prestigious institution known for its rigorous legal training. Prior to that, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science at Southern Methodist University in 1966. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Virginia in 1973. His academic background provides a strong foundation for his legal practice, particularly in areas where law intersects with economic principles. Admitted to practice law in Hawaii, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, Mr.
Street has also appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Hawaii State Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, and the Virginia State Bar. His commitment to the field is evident through his leadership roles, including serving as Chair and Board member of the Hawaii State Bar Association’s Intellectual Property and Technology Law Section. In 2010, after nearly three decades with Rush Moore LLP in Honolulu, Mr. Street established his own practice to concentrate more on intellectual property law. His contributions to the field have been recognized through his involvement with the Copyright Litigation Subcommittees of the ABA Litigation and Intellectual Property Sections, as well as the Copyright Visual Arts and Dramatic Works Subcommittee of the ABA Intellectual Property Section.
