About Elijah

Elijah Yip grew up with close ties to the islands and a practical sense of the law's role in everyday life. He took those early impressions to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 1999 after beginning his studies in 1996. The law school years shaped his approach to courtroom work and appellate procedure alike.

After law school, Yip served as a law clerk in 1999 for the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii. That clerkship provided an inside view of federal litigation and the rhythms of trial courts. It also exposed him to the mechanics of judicial decisionmaking and the drafting of opinions, experience that has informed his practice ever since.

Following his clerkship, Yip entered private practice and remained based in Hawaii. Over time he built a practice that drew on both trial-court experience and familiarity with federal appellate procedure. He is admitted to practice in Hawaii and to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and he continues to maintain current professional memberships.

Yip is currently at Luminate Law. His practice there is shaped by the local legal landscape and by the federal procedures he learned early in his career. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and straightforward in court. He prefers clear legal writing and careful case management; those preferences are evident in filings and courtroom appearances.

Clients who work with Yip find an attorney who understands the procedural demands of both state and federal matters in the islands. He draws on his clerkship background when evaluating issues and preparing arguments. He currently practices at Luminate Law, handling matters in Hawaii and filings before the Ninth Circuit.
