About J. Phillip
J. Phillip Boston earned his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1981. He entered the legal profession at a time of steady change in Georgia courts. Those early years shaped a practice grounded in courtroom procedure and dispute resolution.
He began his work within the court system, serving as a staff lawyer in 1984. That position gave him day-to-day exposure to court operations and case management. In 1987 he joined Irwin, Bladen, Baker & Russell in Atlanta as a staff lawyer, where he handled matters that required navigating both procedural and substantive issues in litigation.
Two years later he opened his own practice. The Law Office of J. Phillip Boston was established in 1989. Operating a solo practice required him to manage client relationships, file pleadings, and argue matters when necessary. It also allowed him to shape a workload that balanced courtroom work and negotiated solutions.
Over time Boston expanded his role in dispute resolution beyond traditional litigation. He serves as an arbitrator and mediator for court alternate dispute resolution programs. Those roles place him on panels called upon to help parties resolve contested matters without a full trial. He draws on his earlier court experience when overseeing arbitration hearings and facilitating settlements in mediation sessions.
Boston has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1984 and remains an active member. That affiliation reflects a continuous presence in the state’s legal community for more than four decades. His career path — from court staff lawyer to firm lawyer to solo practitioner and ADR professional — reflects a steady progression through different institutional roles in the Georgia legal system.
Colleagues and court administrators encounter him most often in ADR settings and in filings that arise from his private practice. He approaches hearings with attention to procedure and works to give parties clear paths toward resolution. His practice combines experience in court processes, private representation, and alternative dispute resolution.
He currently serves as an arbitrator and mediator for court ADR programs and maintains a private practice at the Law Office of J. Phillip Boston, handling dispute resolution and court-related matters.
