About J. Michael Boomershine
J. Michael Boomershine Jr. earned his law degree from Drake University in 2017 after completing an undergraduate double major in English and Political Science at the same school in 2013. He took a conventional path through law school but brought a humanities background to his legal studies. That combination shaped how he approached legal writing and analysis from the start.
After graduating in 2017, Boomershine joined Caldwell, Brierly & Chalupa, PLLC as an associate lawyer. He moved quickly into firm practice, handling day-to-day tasks that fall to an associate: legal research, drafting motions and pleadings, preparing discovery, and communicating with clients and opposing counsel. Colleagues describe him as steady in routine work and willing to take on detailed assignments that support case development.
Boomershine is licensed in Iowa and has maintained memberships in the Iowa State Bar Association since 2017 and the Iowa Association for Justice since 2018. Those memberships mark his ongoing participation in the state’s legal community and provide regular opportunities for continuing education and networking. He has used those forums to keep current on procedural developments and developments in state practice.
At the firm, his role has been shaped by the practical demands of litigation practice. He contributes to case preparation and supports trial teams. Much of his time has been spent on the factual and written work that underpins courtroom efforts. He has handled briefs, discovery strategies, and the background work that allows senior attorneys to focus on hearings and trials.
