About Ian N.

Ian N. Service built a legal career that moves between courtrooms and public offices. He began in federal court, serving as an extern judicial clerk in 2007 in the chambers of Chief Judge B. Lynn Winmill in the District of Idaho. That early exposure to trial procedure and opinion drafting shaped the next steps of a varied public-service path.

Later in 2007 he joined the Twin Falls County Public Defender’s Office as a deputy public defender. He handled criminal defense matters for clients who could not afford private counsel. The work required quick case assessment, regular courtroom appearances and a steady readiness to try cases when plea negotiations failed.

In 2009 he shifted roles to the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office in Pocatello, taking on duties as a deputy prosecutor. That position placed him on the other side of the courtroom and broadened his perspective on case strategy, victim advocacy and the mechanics of building a prosecution file. The experience of representing both defendants and the state has informed how he evaluates evidence and prepares for trial.

By 2016 Service moved to Arizona and joined the Maricopa County Office of the Public Advocate as a deputy public advocate and dependency lawyer. There he worked on dependency cases that involved child welfare, family services and the courts’ role in assessing parental fitness. The dependency calendar posed different procedural and evidentiary questions than criminal dockets. It also required interaction with social services, guardians ad litem and multidisciplinary teams.

Also in 2016 he founded Service Law Group PLLC. Creating a private practice allowed him to draw on the range of his public-office experience while offering representation in contested matters. He has practiced in both Idaho and Arizona, carrying the procedural habits of trial work and a familiarity with public-law processes into private practice.

Throughout his career he has maintained memberships in professional associations. That professional engagement accompanies a caseload that tends to combine litigation and court advocacy. Colleagues describe him as practical in the courtroom and direct in client communications. He has handled bench and jury trials, preliminary hearings, and dependency adjudications.

As of 2026 he practices through Service Law Group PLLC and handles matters across Idaho and Arizona, concentrating on criminal defense, dependency cases and public-advocate work.
