About Ian M.

Ian M. Seruelo built his legal foundation at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, earning a J.D. in 2014 and a Certificate in Law and Social Justice the same year. He previously completed undergraduate studies at the University of the Philippines–Visayas, where he studied business administration and marketing. Those early academic choices set a practical tone for a career that bridges community lawyering and private practice.

His early work placed him inside labor and immigrant organizations. In 2013 he served as a Peggy Browning Fellow in the Industrial Division of the Communication Workers of America, and he held internships at refugee and immigrant service organizations the next year. During law school he worked on civil and employment matters at the Law Office of Amanda Thompson and on immigration matters at the Law Office of Paula Gonzalez. He also spent a summer clerking with the United Taxi Workers of San Diego, gaining experience with grassroots advocacy and client-facing representation.

After law school, Seruelo moved into roles that combined immigration and employment law. He worked as an immigration lawyer for the Employee Rights Center in 2015, and that same year began practicing under his own name. He later served as legal counsel to the Pilipino Workers Center and took on contract work for the Somali Bantu Association of America. In 2019 he became principal of the Law Offices of Ian M. Seruelo, a firm through which he continued to represent individuals and community organizations.

Throughout his career he has maintained ties to professional groups that reflect his practice areas. He holds membership in the American Bar Association and the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and he has been active in the Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego since 2016. He was a member of the San Diego County Bar Association from 2015 through 2018.

Colleagues describe his path as drawn from hands-on experience in community settings and formal legal training. He has handled matters in administrative and civil contexts and represented clients in cases that touch both immigration and employment issues. His background in business administration informs how he advises clients about the practical and procedural aspects of legal processes.

Seruelo is licensed to practice in California and runs a small practice that continues to serve immigrant communities and workers. His current practice at the Law Offices of Ian M. Seruelo centers on immigration and employment-related legal matters.
